Olivia Eielson is an Oakland-based painter. She has had many solo shows, as well as representation in group exhibitions. Her work is in private collections across the country.
After Piranesi/After Us Series
By combining elements from ancient ruins with modern motifs, these paintings suggest that our empire and way of life are not sustainable. They show what might be left if humankind disappears: impressive ruins and toxic, dangerous places haunted by our industrial dreams.
The Teapot/Fedora Series
These paintings (including “Teatime” shown below) began as play with representation/non-representation, but turned out to be small drama pieces featuring teapots, stuffed snakes and a fedora.
Landscapes
I also enjoy working on landscapes, playing with them and going from the representational to the more abstract, as shown here in “Hawkseye Bay”, “Grand Canyon” and “1975/2005: The Explosion”.
